I'll start by saying I'm a sucker for mythos stories. I'm also a big fan of icky-squicky, creepy-crawly spider tales. To that, this book was an all day sucker. Never losing its flavor and getting stickier with every lick. The Eight Eyes That Watch you Die is basically a collection of stories that operate in the same universe and under the same web (ha!) In this world, a movement known as the Unbroken Weave comb the world, with their silk addicts, those who have tasted the otherworldly silk of the spider and all the gifts it unlocks. Arcana, the mother spider of their lore hid her eight eyes throughout the world and ushered pure darkness to the world upon her death. These stories collected here offer glimpses into that world. In "The God of Dead Dreamers," a junkie is offered a chance at redemption by taking a risky gig smuggling for the Unbroken Weave. A squatter's club begins to offer live entertainment and opening night will prove to be a night to remember in "Shelob Headlines The Ox." "Static: The Life And Works of Z" is a total headfuck of a tale that is as gruesome as it is strangely brilliant. Three stories/chapters from this macabre mural of fever dream madness, body horror and nightmare fuel. Cronenbergian impressions of Clive Barker from the roughly carved dummy upon Johnson's trembling knee. I adored this book. You will too.
