REBORN

"Machined Reborn" The 'New York Post' called this 'The New SAW'; I guess there are obvious comparisons between those movies except that this one lacks the big-budget polish of the SAW franchise. That being said I must admit that I enjoyed this; it was relatively ludicrous in places but completely feasible that someone could make a suit of armour like the one in this movie and stomp around killing people. I bought this in Germany where it is called 'Machined: Bloody Killer' and so I wasn't aware that it is a sequel, but now that I know I will keep an eye out for the first instalment, mainly out of curiosity as the villain of the piece 'Motorman Dan' does precious little in this except sit on his arse and watch tv monitors while guiding Cade (Jimmy Flowers) to kill anything that moves so he can save his wife Jess (Davina Joy) who will be tortured to death in the sort of contraption we see in the SAW movies. 'Motorman Dan' (David C. Hayes) is clearly having fun in his role even if he is taking something of a backseat to the other characters. From what I gather in the first movie 'Motorman Dan' is a serial killer who partially mechanizes himself. This film sees Cade and Jess buying 'Motorman Dan's' junkyard with a view to making a killing when a new road gets built, but 'Motorman Dan' is hiding there so the killings in this are of a different sort as various people visit the yard only to be gruesomely dispatched in a variety of ways. This is cheesy, claustrophobic, nasty and a little comical at times too, which is not entirely a bad thing as it makes this low-budget film fun to watch. REVIEWED BY JOE YOUNG |
