 DEATH'S REALM DEATH’S REALM Editors Anthony Rivera and Sharon Lawson Grey Matter Press 279 Pages Published January 6, 2015 This is a brilliant anthology; one of the best I have read in a very long time, akin to the Zippered Flesh series in its intelligent writing, well-crafted stories and taut editing. Some of the laugh-out-loud moments (and always a faux pas when reading in bed at night), was the name of the cafe in OMNISCOPIC by Rhoads Brazos called Schrödinger’s and the argument the characters have about death. The story involves genetics, insects, mutations, String Theory and all other kinds of fun and creepy things. Horror fans and Science Fiction fans will love this virulent tale and if it reminds you of a Twilight Zone episode where Sheldon is in a parallel universe, you will not be alone. A creepy, parallel universe. HAUNTER by Hank Schwaeble is the horror version of the movie Groundhog Day. History keeps repeating the same event over and over again. Except, it does not end well for Mathew, or his wives. The anthology weaves magical tales of Easter eggs with hidden trophies, ghosts, ghosts with ghosts, voodoo, Munchausen’s Syndrome by Proxy and many, many more of life’s more interesting ideas. I was intrigued by Necromancers, grossed out by YOU ONLY DIE ONCE, and I mean that in a good way, and was excited by TO TOUCH THE DEAD because it inspired story thoughts in my own head. HIGH ART by Karen Range and Simon Dewar was crazy good and probably my favourite story. Could not help but giggle at the ending. And the sex. Brilliant, down-and-dirty fun-fest of love. What I love about this book is that each tale is solid; rock solid. The writing is intense, intelligent and interesting. The authors produce magic on a page and the editors are the alchemists that pull this tome together. This is a definite winner. And will hit my favourite list.
