Dominic Brunt and Joanne Mitchell

Horror's finest married couple talks to ginger nuts of horror about working together on their excellent horror films before dawn and bait
I was honoured to interview Dominic brunt and his wife Joanne Mitchell at the tail end of last year. After watching their powerful and disturbing film Bait I just had to speak to them about the film and the pressures of working together on such a brutal film. Read on for an enlightening interview with two genuine rising stars of the horror genre......
In a new monthly feature here on The Ginger Nuts of Horror, I get to know some fantastic authors by speaking to them in an informal, conversational setting, over the phone. There are no pre-written questions and the authors don't have time to make up their answers, so what they say is as honest and forthcoming as possible. My hope is that readers will be able to see through the horrific stories and deranged characters, and get to know their favourite authors in a way never before possible. I hope you enjoy this month's Up Close and Personal with April's author, David Owain Hughes. David Owain Hughes is the author of fantastic extreme horror stories such as Wind-Up Toy and White Walls and Straightjackets, and features in the Number 1 best-selling anthology, Easter Eggs and Bunny Boilers. After this conversation, I am more convinced than ever that he needs psychiatric help. PRESS UPS: SINISTER GRIN PRESS

In this latest feature I travelled to the southern U.S., Austin, Texas, to be exact. This is where I sought out the guys at Sinister Grin Press. Sinister Grin Press is a publishing house formed inside the dark minds of co- founders Travis Tarpley and Shane McKenzie. The press is partnered with Matt Worthington and Tristan Thorne. I am a huge fan of these guys. They have released some truly memorable limited edition hardbacks by Adam Cesare, Charlee Jacob, Lee Thomas, Kristopher Rufty and Wrath James White. But, that’s not all! They have released a number of EBooks and paperbacks from the above mentioned and others including the brilliant ‘Jackpot’ – a novel about a serial killer who strikes it big by winning the lottery! This particular book brought together Adam Cesare, Kristopher Rufty, David Bernstein and Shane McKenzie in a tale filled with gruesome acts of depravity and coated in dark humour. It was heaps of fun to read and grossed me out on several occasions too. What follows is a series of questions I put to the guys about their publishing adventures and some insight into their forthcoming projects. Enjoy! |
