Horror Interview : Dave Eisenstark

25/7/2014
Dave Eisenstark HORROR INTERVIEW Dave Eisenstark
Dave Eisenstark has been writing professionally and working in the film industry in various capacities for more years than he actually remembers. Nine of his feature film scripts have been produced, including the award-winning comedy Monkey Love (starring Jeremy Renner) and the horror classic Creepozoids.

Like film producer George Lucas, Dave graduated with a degree from USC Cinema; unlike Mr. Lucas, everything else.

Dave's first novel, The Video Killer, is probably vile, tasteless trash, but possibly amusing, and currently available from Spanking Pulp Press.

Dave lives in Los Angeles with his wife, a production sound mixer on major motion pictures. His daughter resides in the San Francisco Bay area and speaks both English and Chinese for some unknown reason. Yes, he has pets, who asked not to be mentioned.

HORROR AUTHOR INTERVIEW : CARMILLA VOIEZ

24/7/2014
carmilla voiez horror author interview carmilla voiez
Carmilla Voiez is a new voice in the world of horror. While the imagery harks back to the writings of Clive Barker and H P Lovecraft, her voice is uniquely female. Starblood is perhaps the first true female horror story ever written, dealing with both sexual violence and the struggle of a woman trying to make sense of a senseless world.

Carmilla grew up on a varied diet of horror. Her earliest influences as a teenage reader were Graham Masterton, Brian Lumley and Clive Barker mixed with the romance of Hammer Horror and the visceral violence of the first wave of video nasties. Fascinated by the Goth aesthetic and enchanted by threnodies of eighties Goth and post-punk music she evolved into the creature of darkness we find today.

Living in North East Scotland, she finds inspiration in the wildlife, castles and desolate places which surround her. She lives with her two children by the sea.

Her books are both extraordinarily personal and universally challenging. As Jef Withonef of Houston Press once said - "You do not read her books, you survive them."

Signed to Vamptasy Publishing in 2012 three books in the critically acclaimed Starblood Trilogy have been published and she is currently working on a vampire tale. She has also edited and compiled a collection of psychological horror from the best new talent in the world of horror writing "Broken Mirrors, Fractured Minds". Carmilla Voiez is a name to watch.

GINGER NUTS TALKS TO KASEY LANSDALE

21/7/2014
Kasey LANSDALE RESTLESSKasey Lansdale
Hi Kasey, thank you for agreeing to do this interview.  How are things with you?

JIM! Things are great, hectic and busy just how I like it!

What three words would you use to best describe yourself?

Outgoing, Optimistic, Loud

Knitting?  That’s not something I’d associate with a country music star?  How many mittens for kittens have you made?

It’s not something I am very good at, but it is relaxing. Getting a jump on my crazy cat lady status!

You were born and raised in Nacogdoches Texas, how the hell do you pronounce that?  And does the name mean anything?

Nac-uh-doh-chez. It’s the oldest town in Texas. When you are a kid, they tell you it was the name of an Indian and his brother Natchitoches who each walked their separate ways and stopped. One in Texas one in Louisiana. It isn’t true, but it’s a cool story.

Texas is a state that has a lot of misconceptions, what would you say is the one misconception about Texas that really annoys you?

Texas is my home, and I love it for so many reasons. SO MANY. You will not meet kinder, more genuine people. But I think sadly that gets overshadowed sometimes because the news focuses on certain aspects that don’t represent the entire population at all. Also, when you have a state that big, there’s just going to be more things to talk about cause there are more people and more space. But no, not everyone carries a gun, rides a horse, or has an ultra conservative mindest. Those things certainly exist, but you can’t take it for granted by any means. What I am greeted with on a regular basis is hardworking people who care about their heritage and land and want better things for those in their community.

As a young teenager he discovered Stephen King, James Herbert, Graham Masterton and many more great modern genre writers and became totally hooked on horror and adventure stories

In his mid-teens he began writing short stories. College, career, marriage and a young family took all his energy and focus but, around 8 years ago, he took pen in hand, once again and writes in his spare time. What little spare time is left is dedicated to walking Ben and Gerry, his two faithful foot beagles and playing electric guitar with his band.
