HORROR AUTHOR INTERVIEW : ADAM WOLF

13/3/2014
Picture
Could you tell the readers a little bit about yourself?

I’m just some guy who grew up reading comic books and novels. I love a good story told in any medium: song, book, movie... Whatever the case may be.

Do you prefer the term Horror, Weird Fiction or Dark Fiction?

I’m not 100% sure. If pressed, I would say ‘Dark Fiction’. I think ‘Horror’ holds a negative connotation for some people, dissuading them from reading a particular book or watching a particular movie they may otherwise enjoy.

Who are some of your favourite authors?

Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, whether writing as a team, or individually. I also enjoyed what J.K. Rowling did with the ‘Harry Potter’ series – created a fantasy world that was enjoyed by all age groups. Stephen King is something of a given. He’s just a damn good story teller in my opinion.

What was the last great book you read, and what was the last book that disappointed you?

The last great book(s) I read was the ‘Robin Hood’ series by Angus Donald. It is a hold-no-punches telling of the tale of Robin Hood from the perspective of his squire. Think Robin Hood meets Game of Thrones. The last book that disappointed me... That would have to be a tale told by a well known author of women’s fiction who will remain nameless. Her heart wasn’t in to it, and it showed in the lacklustre writing.

How would you describe your writing style?

Chaotic. Random. Hopefully enjoyable.

Are there any reviews of your work, positive or negative that have stayed with you?

I’m a stranger to reviews. I’ll take any, good or bad. I’d love to examine people’s insights as to what I’ve done correctly in regards to writing, and what I’ve done horribly wrong.

What’s your favourite food?

Gyros. Gyros with cucumber sauce, onions, and fresh tomato slices. Gonna need a side of steak fries with that, too.

Who would be on the soundtrack to your life story?

Jesus Christ on vocals and lead guitar. Satan on drums. Will Ferrell on cow bell. Christopher Walken as manager.

What’s the most important lesson you have learned about writing?

It’s not as easy as reading.

What aspects of writing to do you find the most difficult?

Doing the story justice. There are few ‘bad’ stories, but a lot of bad writers.

How do you think you’ve evolved creatively?

I’ve come to be able to relax more than I used to when it comes to writing. Hopefully the tales will benefit from that.

What is the best piece of advice you ever received from another author?

Just write.

Who is your favourite character from your book and why?

Hmm... Luna Perez. I’d hang out with her in real life. She’s a lovable person who exudes compassion. And she’s just an all-around cool chick.

How about your least favourite character?  What makes them less appealing to you?

Demetrius aka Scarab. He’s the type of evil that can be found not only in a book, but in  the real world, so he definitely isn’t a ‘cool’ villain like Darth Vader or someone like that.

Fame, fortune, or respect?

Fortune. Billions of dollars. Then I’d use it to buy people hearts and kidney transplants and all sorts of stuff like that. Money is resources. Resources save lives. Fuck fame. And fuck respect (but not as hard as fame).

What piece of your own work are you most proud of?

Probably a page or two long story I began writing about Transformers when I was like six years old. I don’t remember what it was about, other than Transformers, but maybe that was an early sign that I’d give writing novels a crack one day.

Can you tell us about your last book, and can you tell us about what you are working on next?

My last book what the first in a trilogy entitled ‘Catalyst’. It was a comic book-esque novel minus the fancy suits. I’m working on future instalments of my current project ‘A Pale Horse’ as of the moment.

What's the one question you wish you would get asked but never do?

How in the hell are you so damn sexy?!?!
