Originally she planned to study graphic design, but “missed the words too much” and switched to a joint English and History degree. She followed a career in marketing before developing her love of writing fiction.

She now lives near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, with her partner Fergus.

A Cold Season, from Jo Fletcher Books, is Alison’s first novel. It was selected for the Richard and Judy Book Club, where it was described as “perfect reading for a dark winter’s night.” Her next novel, Path of Needles, is set for release in May 2013.

Alison’s short stories have been picked for the Best Horror of the Year and Mammoth Book of Best New Horror anthologies, as well as The Best British Fantasy 2013 and The Mammoth Book of Best British Crime 10. Other publication credits include the anthologies Terror Tales of the Cotswolds, Where Are We Going? and the charity anthology Never Again.

Julianne Snow

25/7/2013
Picture
It was while watching Romero's Night of the Living Dead at the tender age of 6 that solidified Julianne’s respect of the Undead. Since that day, she has been preparing herself for the (inevitable) Zombie Apocalypse. While classically trained in all of the ways to defend herself, she took up writing in order to process the desire she now covets; to bestow a second and final death upon the Undead.

As the only girl growing up in a family with four children in the Canadian countryside, Julianne needed some form of escape. Her choice was the imaginations of others which only fostered the vibrancy of her own. The horror and forensic/crime thriller genres top her list of favourites, but she can never turn down a good science fiction, fantasy or mystery read.

Julianne appears in the anthology Women of the Living Dead with a story entitled The Living Dead at Penderghast Manor. Look for her short stories in future anthologies. Days with the Undead: Book One is her first full-length book, the basis of which can be found in her popular web serial of the same name.

Five Minutes with Rachel Aukes

Picture
As RACHEL AUKES (that's her  real name), she writes speculative fiction (science fiction, dark fantasy, horror) because she absolutely loves asking, "what if..." (and she like to kill people off). As BERINN RAE, she writes the same stuff, only with a romantic twist. But, don't worry, because unlike in mental hospitals and online chat rooms, writing under multiple personalities is okay.

Raised on a farm in Iowa, where she had the largest comic book collection of the town.  These days she enjoys listen to great music and flying airplanes, preferably of the vintage type.

FIVE MINUTES WITH JAMES EVERINGTON

22/7/2013
Picture
Is a writer from Nottingham, England- most of what he writes is dark, supernatural fiction, although not necessarily 'horror' in the blood and guts sense. His main influences are writers like Ramsey Campbell, Shirley Jackson, and Robert Aickman. He enjoys the unexplained, the psychological, and the ambiguous in his weird fiction. He thinks a lot of the best such fiction has been done in the short story form (although that's not to say he won't be trying a novel at some point...)

James Everington's latest collection, Falling Over, is published by Infinity Plus and is out now. Ten stories of unease, fear and the weird.

"Good writing gives off fumes, the sort that induce dark visions, and Everington’s elegant, sophisticated prose is a potent brew. Imbibe at your own risk." - Robert Dunbar, author of The Pines and Martyrs & Monsters.

He drinks Guinness, if anyone's offering.

FIVE MINUTES WITH DAVID JAMES KEATON

David James Keaton’s fiction has appeared in Noir At The Bar, Beat To A Pulp, Needle, Pulp Modern, The Fiddleback, Pulp Pusher, Yellow Mama, Pank, Burnt Bridge, Dirty Noir, Pure Slush, Shotgun Honey, Dark Sky, and Thuglit, among others, as well as in horror anthologies such as Deadcore, The Death Panel, and Dark Highlands. Recently, he won a Best Short Story on the Web Spinetingler Award for his roulette scam in Crime Factory, and his coach-killing contribution to Plots With Guns #10 was named a Notable Story of 2010 by storySouth’s Million Writer’s Award. David received his MFA from the University of Pittsburgh and is also the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Flywheel Magazine, now featuring more wheels than flies, although he is working to remedy this. He’s scribbled enough pages for nine books and is constantly rewriting three screenplays; a prison movie, a thriller, and a western, simultaneously adapting them into novels. He realizes this method is probably backwards
