horror author interview: 5 minutes with joseph schwartz

13/10/2016
Picture
Joseph Schwartz is a   St. Louis native who  writes exclusively about the Gateway City.He prefers the style of fiction deemed transgressive fiction, where his  stories' protagonists generally find a solution to their problems through either illicit or illegal means.  He personally prefers stories told through a criminal's point-of-view. It is never the crime that fascinates him  so much as the motivation to do it and the terrible, almost predictable outcomes to such actions. Just as he has  an expectation of writing to be read he believes that it is as important, if not more so, that you as a reader should have the expectation of being entertained as you read. Anything less is such a disappointment.

I have known Michael Wehunt for a few years now, well before we took on his collection over at ST. I have been a fan from the beginning and can tell you with all honesty, he is one to be watching.  He should be arriving any minute, most likely in those square-toed shoes of his....

Interview with Robin Bennett, author of Small Vampires

31/8/2016
Picture
Ginger Nuts of Horror interviews Robin Bennett who is a rare literary beast in that he skilfully writes across different age groups and genres for children, something which is notoriously difficult and also dabbles with non-fiction for adults. Interestingly, Robin sees writing for the 7-10 age group as the toughest nut to crack! Much of this interview focuses on his fantasy/horror series “Small Vampires” which is a great read for slightly older kids and young teens. Robin is published by Monster Books and is one of the brains behind a successful independent publisher which is currently expanding and hopefully taking on new authors in 2017. So let’s meet Robin and find out what makes the man tick.

LURE OF THE DEVOURING LIGHT: AN INTERVIEW WITH MICHAEL GRIFFIN

29/8/2016
Picture

Michael Griffin's latest  collection, The Lure of Devouring Light, has garnered a great deal of attention and deserved accolades from readers and critics alike, as well as from well-known authors such as Laird Barron and Michael Cisco.

As Laird puts it he

“…skillfully works the rich seams of quiet horror and contemporary weird”.

And as it turns out, “skillfully” is an understatement. “Brilliantly” might be more apt. You can  read my review of it over at Shotgun Logic.  But before you head over there please read the interview between myself and Michael here on Ginger Nuts of Horror

Deborah Sheldon is a writer living in Melbourne, Australia and has publishing credits in a string of anthologies and journals as well as novellas and novels that lurk in the darker area of fiction. I thought I would take some time to have a chat about her writing. I am particularly interested in hearing about her new bio-horror novel being published by Cohesion Press later on this year.

KAREN RUNGE.

13/6/2016
interview with horror author karen runge
Karen Runge is a writer based in South Africa. She writes the kind of stories that leave a mark, long after you have finished reading them. Karen first came to my attention through the Grey Matter Press anthology ‘Deaths Realm’. In collaboration with ‘Suspended in Dusk’ Editor Simon Dewar, they created a tale of sexy horror that I thought was a real stand out inside an already excellent anthology. Fast forward a little and Karen popped up again in another anthology from the excellent Grey Matter Press. This time it was a story in the ‘Savage Beasts’ anthology. For me it was the best story in there, and once again this was a high quality collection of dark fiction.

I heard a little rumour that Karen was working on a short story collection to be released this year. To say I was eager to get my hands on a copy is an understatement. ‘Seven Sins’, released by Concorde Press is the debut collection from this incredibly talented writer and is readily available right now! With blurbs by Stephen Graham Jones and Paul Tremblay you know that this will be something special. Also later this year, Karen will be releasing her debut novel through Grey Matter Press.
